The Bombay Cat
The Bombay is a medium-sized cat with a jet black coat that shines like patent leather. At the top of the head, the dome and the ears are rounded. The muzzle is broad and short. The large, beautifully coppery, or golden eyes are set wide apart and very expressive. The body is firm, muscular, with a strong and straight back. The nose and eye rims are black, the footpads are black or dark brown.
Bombay is one of a group of Asian cats imported by breeders who were trying to create Burmese-type cats in colors not recognized in the breed. In the UK, the Bombay breed is the black variety of the Asian cat.
Asian cats are generally friendly and affectionate. Bombay has a distinctive voice and is generally very talkative. Rather than meowing, they produce something more like a chirp. They love attention and need to be part of the family. They are therefore an excellent companion.
Bombay generally has a good life expectancy. They can live in good health for at least 20 years. There are no specific hereditary diseases associated with this breed, which is quite rare anyway.
